Protection software

SPYWARE AND POP UP PROTECTION: "BOTS"

In this day and age we should be cautious and fearful of getting some type of Rogueware or Spyware on our machines and avoid those pesky pop ups that ruin our surfing experience. But at what price? The very control and operation of our machine itself? Have MEAN people making this kind of junk made it so bad that we have to resort to resigning our machines control to a preprogramed application to protect us from infections? Remember a program only knows what it is taught, so do we trust a program to make the right choices all the time?

I say no ... I say follow the steps outlined in Ccleaner, and take your POWERS back! Below I will explain why I don't use these types of programs that I like to call "ROBOT" protection software.

SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY: AKA "SBS&D"

As a test I installed Spybot on my machine to see if it really is NICE and friendly and easy to use. What I found was the exact opposite in fact, this is a program to be avoided even by the smartest technician unless they are a coder or computer program er.

I installed this and in the beginning it seemed nice. It ran a scan found some junk and removed it- no problems. Then over the period of three days (and I have an active computer life, so a lot of use is done on my machine in just one day) I found that I was getting pop ups from them asking me if it was OK for a program to access my registry file and make changes.

That was nice. But what wasn't nice was the program that was trying to access my registry was listed by spy bot much like this:

A program: "253.234.87.6" for ubla.exe wants to access blah blah blah blah blah .... I think to myself, well if it detected it and I don't know what it is- it must be BAD. As I assume any NORMAL computer user would. After several days of BLOCKING and allowing stuff that I had no idea at all what it was, I found stuff stopped working right on my machine. DVD players, my audio etc etc. I thought to myself as per installing new software section in my article "Cleaning up your startups" ,and said to myself "what was the last thing I installed - Oh yeah spy bot." Then promptly removed it and ran a registry cleaning with the CCleaner. Boom ALL my problems were solved. Do I like Spy bot? No it is not user friendly.

WEBROOT SPYSWEEPER:
The second type of problem and Spybot has this as well, is that the program will auto protect your machine and make random decisions based on a "GENERIC" set of criteria.
If you read the SOFTWARE SALAD article you will get a better idea of what I am talking about and I will add a little to that here.
Example, if we each had the exact same machine, everything on it was the same and we have the machine for a year and can do anything with it we want. In one years time when we meet back up and compare, our machines are going to operate very differently, this is because of the software environment. The programs we install or remove from the computer effects the way it operates. It can make the machine slower, or even faster - It can interfere with the way some other programs work on the machine. Now how in the world is someone going to make a generic robot program that can protect us without you having to fiddle with it?
You are handing your machines program environment - which is 98% of your machine capability to a ROBOT program that is going to make choices on what can and can't access or run on your machine. This is not a good thing by any means. It WILL lead to problems and it will take many people and calls and services to a retailer before one of them has the light on in their head enough to remove it.
See security software is not something to take lightly, or to leave in the hands of some preprogramed robot that does not adapt what it is told to the programs that are running on your machine. Take your powers back!
Programs that are healthy, means your machine is healthy. Don't let programs make choices for you. You did not get a computer to let it robotically run itself and not care what it does, in the end we all care when stuff does not function correctly, prevent this issue by removing the ROBOTS from your life and your machine. You will be happier in the end~
